RENU-CERT at 10: A Decade of Defending Digital Assets for Uganda’s Research and Education 🎉🛡️
On 5th August 2026, RENU-CERT celebrated 10 years of existence, marking a decade of strengthening cybersecurity and protecting Uganda’s research and education community against an increasingly complex cyber threat landscape.
From its establishment in 2016, RENU-CERT has grown from an incident response service into a comprehensive cybersecurity service, supporting member institutions through incident handling, cybersecurity auditing, filtering services, eduVPN, backup and recovery, cybersecurity awareness, capacity building, and External Attack Surface Management.
Over the years, the team has handled 251 notable cybersecurity incidents, trained over 300 ICT professionals and students, and contributed to strengthening the resilience of Uganda’s research and education community.
As we celebrate the first decade, we look forward to the next: enabling innovation with confidence and ensuring that Uganda’s researchers, educators, students, and institutions can connect, collaborate, and create in a secure digital environment.
